Senior Session
Things you need to know:
- A SITTING FEE of $20.00 is due at the time of the sitting.
- You may pay with cash, check or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express.)
- You will choose your yearbook photo at the time of your sitting. If you
need to order it at that time (i.e. to meet a deadline,) payment of $20.00
is required. Add $26.25 for retouching of facial blemishes and $42.00
for braces removal.
- It is the student's responsibility to deliver the yearbook photo to the school.
- Females must be accompanied by a parent (preferably mother) or other female to assist with clothing, hair, make-up, etc.
- Please arrive with hair and make-up ready to go so as not to use up your sitting time and keep others waiting.
- ALL PHOTOGRAPHS MADE BY DANIELS PHOTOGRAPHY ARE SUBJECT TO COPYRIGHT LAWS. IT IS ILLEGAL TO COPY, SCAN OR REPRODUCE ANY OF YOUR SENIOR PORTRAITS.
What to expect:
- Your photo session will take approximately one hour. During that time, you will view your photos on our studio monitor and give instant feedback. You will also be able to choose from a wide variety of backgrounds available in our state-of-the-art background system.
- Your photo session will include your yearbook pose (drape, tuxedo or blazer.) Daniels Photography Studio will provide the drape for girls (bring a tube or tank top to wear underneath) and tux, shirt and bowtie for boys. (Howard High School requires a dark blazer, regular shirt and tie which must be provided by the senior.)
- A cap & gown portrait can also be done at your request. We have a white gown for girls and a black gown for boys. If your school uses colors other than these, you may be able to borrow a gown from a previous graduate and/or the school.
- Should you wish to have only the required yearbook pose, we will not take as many photographs as when you bring props and changes of clothing. However, because we have scheduled about an hour for the session, it makes sense to bring a variety of clothing changes and personal props that reflect your interests and personality (see next section.) There is no obligation to purchase.
- Your portrait previews will be ready to view approximately one week after your sitting. We will mail them to you provided you have left a $195 deposit at the time of the sitting. This deposit will be applied toward your order or is refundable if previews are returned within 30 days.
- We will discuss packages with you and establish a date for you to return and place your order. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, checks and cash.
Planning for a successful portrait session:

You should bring a variety of clothes and other items in order to capture all the facets of your personality. Please follow these guidelines to make the most of the fun and creative portion of your portrait session.

- Jackets: leather, denim, corduroy, team

- Do not use glitter on your face. It shows up in photographs as little white spots.
- Bring your favorite music CDs to listen to during your session.
- You will be photographed outdoors, weather permitting. Bring appropriate clothing for the weather on the day of your sitting.

Family Session
Planning for your Group Portrait
The selection of proper clothing is a critical factor in preparing for a successful portrait. It may very well be the difference between a really successful portrait and just another picture. Clothing for group portraits must be carefully selected to blend the
bodies together. First, decide whether the basic tone of the clothing
will be warm-toned (browns, etc.) or cool-toned (blues/grays/blacks,
etc.)
Dark Clothing Tends to Slenderize:
- Darker clothing helps to blend the bodies with the background, so that
the faces are the most important part of the photograph. Dark colors also
tend to slenderize while light colors can add weight to a subject.
- Bright colors draw attention away from the face. Colors should be toned down. Prints and patterns of any kind, no matter how small, become a distraction if they are too bright.
- Clothing below the waistline should be darker than above. Otherwise, even light jeans worn below a darker top could easily attract attention to the lower part of the body and away from the face.
Avoid Short Sleeve Clothing, Short Pants and Sneakers:
- Long sleeves and long pants are a MUST for both formal and casual portraits. Bare arms and legs compete with the face and are a distraction. White shirts and/or blouses under a dark jacket are perfect.
- A scarf loosely tied around the neck helps to frame a face beautifully when a collarless blouse or sweater is worn. Neckties should be toned down in color with minimal pattern.
- Coordinate footwear to match with clothing as we often do full-body portraits. Avoid sneakers unless you are going for a casual look.
- Clothing should not be too tight or too loose.
- Your portraits are meant to be enjoyed for generations to come. Trendy clothing should be avoided unless you are planning to have new portraits made annually.
Proper Necklines for a Portrait:
- The most flattering neckline for most people is a garment that comes up close to the neck. A wide-open neckline tends to thicken the neck in a
photograph. On the other hand, a neckline that comes up to the base of the neck--a turtleneck or a V-neck top--is the most flattering. It is slimming and frames the face beautifully.
The Final Test:
Finally, lay out all the clothing, shoes, socks, stockings (preferably dark hose) -- everything should be included, even shoes! Step back and take a careful look at the collection. If your eye goes to any one item in particular, you can be certain that the same thing will happen in a photograph. That item should be changed.
Hair Style and Makeup:
- Hair styles should be simple and must be off the face. Hair falling down onto the sides of the face creates distracting shadows. Bangs that come down too low onto the face will keep light from getting into the subject's eyes, the most important part of the face.
- Eye makeup should be blended with no sharp demarcation lines between colors. Too much white or color above or below the eyes does not photograph well.
- Foundation should be blended at the jaw line so that there is no demarcation between the face and the neck.
- Avoid using glitter on the face. It shows up in photographs as little white spots.
Glasses:
- You may choose not to wear your eyeglasses if they distort the outline of your face or if they cause reflection in the photograph. Non-reflective lenses, if you have them, are a solution. Sometimes it's possible to obtain a matching set of frames without lenses from your optician or to remove the lenses entirely from the frames.
